Steam Deck 2 announcement from Valve: Don’t expect a new device every year!

Ana sayfa / News

Steam Deck fans waiting for a new model have received some unexpected news from Valve. In an interview, Steam Deck lead designer Lawrence Young confirmed that the company is working on Steam Deck 2, but said that the device won’t be released anytime soon.

Most importantly, he made it clear that Valve will not be releasing a new Steam Deck model every year on a regular basis. According to Young, it’s fairer to consumers to develop a device with truly meaningful innovation, rather than releasing a new model with minor changes every year.

Apparently, Valve doesn’t want to release a new model every year just to give users “micro innovations”. So, instead of just making a few minor updates with each new model and leaving the overall structure of the device the same, they plan to offer a device that comes with truly revolutionary innovations.

So, according to Valve’s designer, we’re going to have to be a bit more patient to see the next Steam Deck, but it’s definitely worth the wait. The current Steam Deck OLED came out in November 2023, and it actually offers a few significant improvements over the current Steam Deck.

Its 7.4-inch 90Hz OLED 90Hz display offers more vivid images, while its 50Wh battery capacity allows for longer play times. It also features a 6nm Zen 2 architecture CPU and RDNA 2 architecture GPU. So, for now, it looks like we’ll have to wait a little longer for Steam Deck 2.
